What can Chicago PD fans learn from Confession? Look closer at this week’s episode with our Chicago PD season 6, episode 21 takeaways.

What did One Chicago fans learn from the latest Chicago PD episode? Here’s what we took away from this week’s installment, “Confession.”

“Confession” featured Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) trying to chase down a drug supplier who had previously gotten away with murdering one of Antonio’s informants. At the same time, pushing the man’s accomplice to confess made him consider his own involvement in a cover-up.

If you missed any of this week’s episode or just want a refresher on the events that we’re about to discuss, you can catch up with our Chicago PD recap.

Below are our takeaways from this week’s episode:

More from One Chicago Center

1) Is this how Antonio leaves?

“Confession” pretty clearly spelled out how Antonio will be written out of the series, since Jon Seda is not returning for Chicago PD season 7.

But will he actually confess, or will something else happen? After all, his lawyer did tell him that if the truth came out, he wouldn’t be the only one who’d face termination—so would Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger). And they can’t be fired, because Beghe and Flueger are coming back.

It’s possible that Antonio brokers a deal to protect his colleagues, the way that Voight tried to do with Olinsky at the end of season 5. But otherwise, it’s a bit hard to see exactly how this is going to work out—which then just drives interest in watching the season finale anyway.

2) Did we need more of this earlier?

“Confession” gave us a sizeable look at Antonio’s recovery process; the episode started with him attending a Narcotics Anonymous meeting. He’s obviously still got some things to work through, but this is the first time audiences have really seen it since the midseason premiere.

In that episode, Voight helped Antonio get into rehab—but after it ended, it didn’t take long for him to be back on the job and appearing to be fine. More cracks have shown recently, but it would have been even better if Chicago PD had explored this angle when it happened, rather than trying to do it now.

Now it feels like the writers are showing more of his flaws to set up his exit, when if they’d done it earlier in the season, it could have been showing his struggle and making what we’re about to see even more believable. Besides, everyone knows Jon Seda would have crushed that kind of writing!

3) Brennan just got interesting

When she was first introduced, we were critical of Deputy Superintendent Katherine Brennan (recurring guest star Anne Heche) because she just wasn’t interesting. There wasn’t more to her than being her boss’s henchwoman—but “Confession” changed that.

Chicago PD has slowly been fleshing out Brennan by showing her interactions with Voight, and now she’s officially been burned by the boss she thought was going to promote her to the top of the Chicago Police Department. Now she has a compelling story and her own point of view. And could she be an ally to Voight in the season finale? That would be awesome to watch, and prove why she was added to the show in the first place.
