What should fans watch for in the Chicago Fire season finale? Get ready for I’m Not Leaving You with our Chicago Fire season 7, episode 22 preview.

This week brings us the Chicago Fire season finale, and most of what’s worth talking about has to do with the show’s two core characters.

Wednesday’s installment “I’m Not Leaving You” is the third and last chapter of the serial arsonist story, as Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) continues to pursue the woman who his father Benny had suspected a decade and a half ago.

There’s a good, emotional storyline here about Severide hopefully capturing her and making Benny proud, particularly in the same season where the show killed him off.

However, be careful: this is also rife for another cliffhanger ending, particularly the “put a character in peril” ones that Chicago Fire absolutely loves. The writers like using cliffhangers in their finales, and many of those involve somebody being trapped in a fire, with us not knowing if they’re going to make it out.

Hopefully this won’t be one of those, but don’t be shocked if Severide or even Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer) ends up trapped in an episode-ending blaze. Those two, particularly the latter, are magnets for life-threatening fires and both of them are good candidates for risk.

That’s because the other major storyline in “I’m Not Leaving You” involves Casey and whether or not he’ll get together with Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer).

Chicago Fire‘s last two episodes have been very clear that Brett has feelings for Casey, and that she should pursue him romantically—including literally telling her that two weeks ago. Having set that up, it has to be paid off in the finale somehow, or why make it such a talking point recently?

Fans are still of various opinions regarding a Casey and Brett ship, so it’ll be worth tuning in to see how the show handles it. It’s bringing back Brett’s ex Kyle Sheffield (Teddy Sears) for the requisite speed bump, but this should be the episode where something happens—especially if Casey ends up in some dangerous circumstances that prompts Brett to speak up for fear of losing him.

However, audiences have seen with Chicago Med what happens when writers try to steer their show toward a particular ship, too. If it feels too forced, sometimes it doesn’t work. So how will Derek Haas and company set this up? And will they be able to overcome Brett’s own argument that this is weird when he was married to her best friend?
