Chicago Fire will introduce a new paramedic during season 8, but that doesn’t mean Kara Killmer’s Sylvie Brett is leaving the show.

Another paramedic is coming to Chicago Fire next season, but that doesn’t necessary mean that Sylvie Brett is leaving Chicago.

TVLine is reporting that Chicago Fire season 8 will include a new character coming to Firehouse 51 as a newly assigned paramedic. The implication, of course, is that the new arrival is a replacement for Brett (Kara Killmer) after she accepted a marriage proposal in the season 7 finale.

But don’t count her out just yet.

Though Brett is engaged to Kyle Sheffield (recurring guest star Teddy Sears), and Kyle is moving to Indiana, bringing in another paramedic does not confirm that One Chicago fans are about to lose a fan favorite.

Viewers will recall that several people have joined Firehouse 51 over the years, but very few of them have actually stuck around.

Most recently, Jason Kannell (Kamal Angelo Bolden) was transferred into the firehouse in season 6, but was never seen again after that. In season 7, it was mentioned he’d moved to another shift.

Other paramedics have come in and left again, too; remember Jessica “Chili” Chilton (recurring guest star Dora Madison)?

So while there might be a change at Firehouse 51, it’s not necessarily a permanent change.

We’ve seen an arc like this before, after all. Remember when Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) was thinking about moving to Springfield to be with Anna Turner (Charlotte Sullivan), and then the plot had her decide to move to Chicago instead?

It’s entirely possible that season 8 starts with Brett planning to leave or having left, and someone new there to replace her or being trained to replace her. But that could just be a short arc for a few episodes, and then Brett comes back to Chicago—with or without Kyle. After all, her engagement doesn’t mean they’ll make it to the altar, either!

There’s been no information on who will be playing the new character, or any details about the character, either. So that part remains under wraps for now.

But don’t panic, fans! There’s definitely something happening around the firehouse, but there’s no concrete proof that it’s going to end with the permanent departure of Sylvie Brett.
