What it means

Hailey took a little bit of a supporting role this season, especially when it came to the action of Chicago PD. The screen time she did receive usually involved one of two guys in her life: Adam and/or Jay. Fans got to see her physically connect with Adam in “Bad Boys” and “True or False” which was a real treat for Upzek fans.

Hailey also found a new level of emotional depth with Jay, as they established “their thing that works between them” in “Trigger” (aka: going for a drink and having some serious conversation).  This was a theme in future episodes, including “Outrage”, “Good Men” and of course, the season finale “Reckoning.” Whether it continues as a platonic exchange or a romantic one is in the writers’ hands.

There was one bright moment for Hailey during season 6 though. Tracy Spiridakos was prominently featured (along with Marina Squerciati, who portrays Kim Burgess) in “Ties That Bind”, which had the two held hostage. Both women got to show off their fighting skills, which made for an action-packed episode.

It wouldn’t be Chicago PD without a little bit of drama, which writers delivered when Kim subsequently found out about Upzek’s relationship.  Here’s hoping the writers give Spiridakos some more material for next season that focuses solely on Hailey’s character development, because she is more than one half of a relationship.
