Chicago Med alum Ato Essandoh is headed into space as part of the new Netflix drama Away. Get the details on his next project.

While Ato Essandoh‘s future on Chicago Med remains unclear, fans will be able to see him starring in another Netflix original series soon.

Essandoh has been cast in Away, which focuses on a crew of astronauts who set out on a critical mission. According to Deadline he’ll play Kwesi, a British-Ghanaian botanist who’s never been into space before being recruited for this operation.

Hilary Swank, who was seen last year as Gail Getty in FX’s drama Trust, stars as team commander Emma Green. Other cast members include Josh Charles (The Good Wife) as Emma’s husband Matt, who’s also a NASA engineer.

This is the second recent space drama for Netflix—it launched the sci-fi series Another Life, which stars Longmire and Battlestar Galactica‘s Katee Sackhoff, on July 25.

It’s also the second Netflix project for Ato Essandoh during his tenure in the One Chicago universe. He’d previously starred in the streamer’s Altered Carbon in its first season.

More recently, he appeared as one of the primary villains in this summer’s X-Men film Dark Phoenix, and on TV fans have been watching him in the CBS military drama The Code.

Unfortunately, that series was axed by the network after just one season last month.

But Away, which doesn’t have a premiere date yet, means that anyone who’s enjoyed the actor as Dr. Isidore Latham will still be able to see him on a new show. You’ll have to have a Netflix subscription, of course, but at least he’ll be around somewhere especially since it’s not clear if Latham will be back for Chicago Med season 5.

No one has said that he won’t be, but given the producers’ choice to get rid of both the characters Latham supervised—Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) and Dr. Ava Bekker (Norma Kuhling) will be leaving after the season premiere—he may not fit in anymore. After all, the writers just packed up his entire department, or at least the part we see on screen.

That would be a shame, because since his introduction in the second season, Latham has been one of the most interesting and unique characters on TV. He had such a compelling story, before Essandoh’s busy schedule and the writers pushing a Connor and Ava romance combined to put him on the back burner for the last two seasons. He brings so much to the show, but the show doesn’t seem to have a place for him right now.

Whatever happens, though, Ato Essandoh continues to have a bright future ahead of him and new opportunities that Chicago Med viewers can follow him to.
