Jeff Hephner

It would not be a Chicago Med casting list if Jeff Clarke (Jeff Hephner) wasn’t included. Die-hard One Chicago fans fell in love with Clarke as a lieutenant on Chicago Fire before his character jumped ship to Med. On the former, Clarke had a bond with Severide; and on the latter, we got to see him find common ground with Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto).

Clarke had a significant role in the second season, as he became Natalie’s new love interest and the roadblock for her getting together with Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss). When that didn’t pan out for obvious reasons, the show shipped him to Hawaii for his residency, and he hasn’t been mentioned since. But fans haven’t forgotten him, and would undoubtedly love to see him come back.

One thing that gets overlooked about Jeff Clarke is that he did get opportunities to be more than Natalie’s boyfriend. He had some great medical stories, working with Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee), so bringing him back wouldn’t be just fan service. He’d actually add to the show, and since fans know and like him already, it’d be something that’d create a ton of buzz.

There was so much of Clarke’s story that didn’t get to be explored, like his complicated relationship with his ex-wife, or how his fire injury affected him psychologically, and why that led him to become a med student in the first place. If Chicago Med could give an update on the character, or have Hephner come back for a few episodes, that could shake things up in Chicago Med season 5 in the best way.
