Look back at where Chicago PD began this summer. Read our retrospective on the fifteenth episode as we rewatch Chicago PD season 1, episode 15.

Over the One Chicago summer break, we’re looking back at where it all began by rewatching the first seasons of our shows—and today we’re revisiting Chicago PD season 1, episode 15.

If you want to rewatch this episode along with us, you can find Chicago PD season 1 on iTunes and DVD.

Episode fifteen is also the first season finale, and it’s called “A Beautiful Friendship.” The episode picks up where the previous one left off, with Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda) recovering from being shot.

Unfortunately for him, things don’t get much better for him because this is the episode where his marriage implodes. His wife Laura (guest star America Olivo) doesn’t want Antonio going back to work, but of course he does, and at the end she leaves him.

On second viewing, it’s tough to watch. Antonio and Laura seemed to have a great marriage, but after this she became much more of a caricature. Her most recent appearances in the One Chicago fandom have turned her into a more confrontational character, and watching this is a reminder that she was once a lot more well-rounded.

The main storylines involve Erin Lindsay’s (Sophia Bush) past, which comes out as she deals with a blackmail plot, and the ongoing Internal Affairs case against Intelligence.

The former is pretty straightforward, with the team doing what they can to help one of their own and the trouble being resolved by the end of the episode.

The latter is what fans of the show will remember. Sheldon Jin (Archie Kao) gets confronted, and then winds up dead in the show’s finale scene. Kao only lasted one season as a series regular, and he was underused for most of it, so it’s no surprise that his character didn’t make it.

Even the guy who followed in his footsteps as tech expert, Mouse (Sam Hunt), wound up getting written out of the show a few years later.

“A Beautiful Friendship” also features the first kiss between Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger). Of course, fans might feel bittersweet watching that again, as Burzek got pushed aside in favor of other relationships for both characters. Will the two reconcile next season? It’s possible, but seeing this you wonder why they couldn’t just stay together.
