Chicago PD alum Wendell Pierce reprised his other recurring role as Robert Zane in this week’s Suits season 9 episode. Watch the video of his return now.

Wendell Pierce is known as Alderman Ray Price over the last two seasons of Chicago PD, but eagle-eyed One Chicago fans know that’s not his only recurring part. Pierce also has a role on USA‘s Suits, and returned to that show on Wednesday.

The actor plays Robert Zane, former partner at the series’ law firm and father of Rachel Zane (Meghan Markle). He reappeared in the episode “Whatever It Takes” to help Samantha Wheeler (Katherine Heigl), his protege.

Though Robert had been in legal trouble and booted from the firm last season, he was brought back as Samantha came to him for help after having been fired for her own unethical behavior.

Pierce recurred on Suits well before being cast as Ray Price during Chicago PD season 5. He also stars as cynical CIA veteran James Greer in the Amazon original series Jack Ryan, which is returning for its second season in late 2019 or 2020.

One Chicago viewers who haven’t watched his other work should consider doing so over what’s left of the hiatus. His performance on the USA drama isn’t that far removed from Price’s storyline; he’s a tough and no-nonsense character, except he’s a lawyer rather than a politician.

This latest Suits episode gave him a few meaty scenes, as Zane confronted Samantha’s former co-workers about not doing enough to save her job—but ultimately had to step in to keep her from doing something even worse that would prevent her from ever working in law again.

It’s unlikely that Pierce will be able to do something similar on Chicago PD, as Ray Price was last seen sitting behind bars, having taken the fall for murders committed by his wife. Unless he cuts a deal and gets out somehow, his time in One Chicago is probably done.

Which is a shame, since as the clip below will demonstrate, Wendell Pierce is a fantastic actor who makes every show better when he appears. Check it out, and if you want to see the full episode, it re-airs on USA throughout the next few days and is also available on demand.
