Chicago PD’s Milauna Jemai Jackson returns in Animal Kingdom finale

Chicago PD alum Milauna Jemai Jackson returned for the Animal Kingdom finale, which also included a big bombshell regarding her character.

Milauna Jemai Jackson not only impressed audiences on Chicago PD, she also had a great role on TNT‘s Animal Kingdom this season, and she returned in this week’s explosive finale that still has fans talking.

One Chicago fans know Milauna as Laila, the strong, no-nonsense woman who had a brief and ill-fated romance with Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) in the Chicago PD episode “Black and Blue.”

That wound up being one of the best episodes of the season, in large part to Milauna’s work and how she created a character who was more compelling than just a one-off love interest.

After her episode aired, she went on to guest star on Dick Wolf‘s other series FBI and then into a recurring role in Animal Kingdom season 4.

Milauna played Pamela Johnson, who appears in the season’s flashback storyline that explains how Janine (Leila George) became infamous crime matriarch Smurf (Ellen Barkin).

She made her debut in the July episode “Into The Black” and has continued to turn up in a few other episodes since.

However, this week’s season finale (also titled “Smurf”) definitely takes the cake. More flashbacks to the 1970’s showed how Pamela did a big favor for Janine and gave her some important advice that apparently had a lasting impact.

That’s because, in the present day, the rest of Smurf’s family read her will after her violent and shocking death—and there was a big reveal in it that involved Pamela! No spoilers here, but it’s something that was unexpected and might end up having repercussions for the rest of the series.

While it’s too early to know if Milauna will return to the show next season, it’s a safe bet that we will see at least an older version of her character. And it’s very clear that her role wound up being hugely significant in the show’s canon. So if you haven’t been keeping up, now is the time.

Now if Leila could only resurface on Chicago PD, but that one’s a little harder to pull off considering that she’s behind bars. But at least we’re getting to see more of the excellent actress who played her!
