2) What’s next for Brett?

Once the fire calms down, Chicago Fire still has to address what’s happening with Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer). Although she was promoted to Paramedic in Charge last season, she also accepted a marriage proposal from ex-boyfriend Kyle Sheffield (recurring guest star Teddy Sears).

Will Brett move with Kyle as he starts his new job, or try to make a long-distance engagement work, especially with Firehouse 51 suffering? Will she change her mind about marrying a guy that she wasn’t with more than a few months? Will they learn more about each other that they didn’t get around to when they were originally together?

The characters had chemistry together, but marriage is a big step. We still don’t know that much about Kyle, aside from what Brett was told about him originally. There’s a ton about him left for her, and the fans, to learn!

There are just so many questions about this ship, especially since the writers threw in the surprise of Brett developing feelings for Matthew Casey (Jesse Spencer). Brett and Kyle were great, but not together long enough for fans to think of them getting married. And the show is still teasing the possibility of Brett and Casey.

Plus, with Brett otherwise busy, that means the most experienced paramedic at Firehouse 51 is Emily Foster (Annie Ilonzeh)—who just got here last season. If she winds up taking over the top job, will her relative inexperience be a problem in the field? Chicago Fire season 8 could wind up having issues on Ambulance 61.
