What should fans look for in this week’s episode of Chicago Med? Get ready for We’re Lost In The Dark with our Chicago Med season 5, episode 2 preview.

Tonight’s episode of Chicago Med will keep fans in the dark – literally – as the hospital’s electrical system shuts down, leaving our favorite doctors and nurses without light.

This makes things tricky for Dr. Natalie Manning’s (Torrey DeVitto) first day back on the job, as she is now trapped in an elevator with Chicago Fire‘s Captain Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) and a patient who’s in need of surgery.

She’s not the only one who is back at work. Her former fiancé, Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) is back to business and, judging by the photo gallery, he’s got some patients of his own to tend to. We bet fans are ready to see Manstead in action again – in terms of work anyway.

It appears as though Chicago Med‘s second episode will pick up a month and a half after the season 5 premiere. This is not the first time Med has done this: the season 3 premiere immediately followed Dr. Daniel Charles’ (Oliver Platt) shooting, before it jumped a few months ahead to further develop the story.

Speaking of Dr. Charles, he and Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) will have a difficult decision to make regarding a patient’s controversial treatment choice; and April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) will clash with newcomer Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains) over how to handle a patient.

Though he may be the new doctor on the floor, Dr. Marcel has already found himself in the middle of a little bit of drama. See, Phillip Davis (returning guest star Ian Harding) insists that he’s engaged to Natalie – even though he never actually proposed! Phillip snuck a ring onto her finger while she was still unconscious, which Dr. Marcel took note of, and therefore became suspicious of the supposed “fiancé.”

While the season premiere dealt with the exit of Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) and the death of Dr. Ava Bekker (Norma Kuhling), it appears that episode 2 will spotlight the rest of the Chicago Med cast. Another story that will continue to be focused on is Maggie Lockwood’s (Marlyne Barrett) cancer diagnosis.

She finally confided in Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson), but will she open up to anyone else? What about Natalie and Will: how will they cope with going back to work? Will they be able to trust themselves, let alone each other, after everything they’ve been through?

Hopefully these questions can be answered, or at least given some direction in terms of where the story could go. With new characters and the departure of two fan-favorites, it’s safe to say some big changes are happening on Chicago Med.
