What should fans watch for in tonight’s Chicago Fire? Get ready for Welcome to Crazytown with our Chicago Fire season 8, episode 7 preview.

The next episode of Chicago Fire will feel like a case of deja vu to many One Chicago fans.

Wednesday’s installment, called “Welcome to Crazytown,” is hitting on at least two plots that we have seen before. The A-story focuses on Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) having to make a choice about his career—a topic that was touched on during season 5, when he contemplated both the idea of promotion, and the idea of moving away from Chicago.

And just like in season 5, Carl Grissom (recurring guest star Gary Cole) is here. We don’t know if he has something to do with Severide’s storyline, but considering the history between the two, it’d be a surprise if he didn’t.

So where is Chicago Fire going to take this now that we haven’t seen before?

Now that we’re two and a half seasons later, has Kelly changed his mind about moving up in the ranks? That doesn’t seem too likely.

Will he go take a job in the Office of Fire Investigation since he seems to be so good at snuffing out these arson cases seemingly every other week?

That’d be more than appropriate—but it would have to be some kind of temporary arc, because Taylor Kinney isn’t leaving the show anytime soon (he’s contracted through at least this season).

Whatever happens, this is a path Severide has already walked, so there needs to be a reason to go down it again.

In the B-story, Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) gets into a fight with a cop. Which isn’t deja vu for this show, but franchise viewers just saw Adam Ruzek get into a fight with a patrol cop on Chicago PD two weeks ago.

It’s the same general idea: show’s hot-tempered character has altercation with police officer and gets in trouble for it.

Not that this is out of character for Herrmann, but again, what’s going to make this different from what we just saw? And between this and the PD storyline, One Chicago really isn’t painting patrol cops in a flattering light recently. That’s strange for a franchise that usually champions the first responders.

But Chicago Fire does manage to surprise us on occasion, and perhaps this is one of those times where it’s going to make something old seem new again. We’ll have to watch and see.
