How has Chicago Med season 5 gone for Will Halstead? Before Chicago Med returns, we’re reviewing the season for Nick Gehlfuss’s character.

Before Chicago Med comes back in the new year, we’re taking a moment to pause and look at the current season for each character. What are the important events that fans need to remember?

What plot developments have been good for each character, and which story points need to be improved? And of course, where could they go next when new episodes start in January?

Click through the below slideshow as we look at Chicago Med season 5 as it relates to Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss), starting with:

What’s happened so far

After the last season of Chicago Med featured Will (with his massive undercover-informant story), the first part of Chicago Med season 5 has mostly been about things other people have done that have affected him.

We’ve had Will seething over Dr. Natalie Manning’s (Torrey DeVitto) engagement to Phillip Davis (Ian Harding) and needling her about her feelings for Phillip. There was Will taking oversight with Natalie’s cases because he doubted her professional competence, and honestly had every reason to.

And last and most random, we had med student Elsa Curry (recurring guest star Molly Bernard) developing a crush on Will only to find out that he’s dating a paramedic. As such, the big explosive moment in the midseason finale was Dr. Halstead telling Natalie he’s not taking her back and that he was “free” without her.

The first nine episodes of this season proved that Will is definitely back to being just a doctor and that he’s very good at it, and also that he may have turned a page and gotten over all the drama in his personal life. But conversely, it also proved drama is going to follow him even when he’s not an active part of it.
