There’s a new Top Gun: Maverick trailer, including more footage of Chicago Justice alum Monica Barbaro in the long-awaited sequel.

Paramount Pictures released another Top Gun: Maverick trailer this week, which includes former Chicago Justice star Monica Barbaro in her latest big-screen role!

The film is a sequel to the classic 1986 film, with Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer reprising their parts as top-notch fighter pilots. But in Maverick, more than 30 years later, there’s a new group of pilots in line to take their place in the skies.

One of those new characters is a trainee nicknamed “Phoenix,” played by Barbaro, who starred for one season as Assistant State’s Attorney Anna Valdez on Chicago Justice. She also played the part again in two episodes of Chicago PD the following season.

This trailer gives fans a chance to see her in action, including a brief glimpse of her in the cockpit, so we know she’ll get some flying scenes in the movie!

It’s a big project for the actress, as this is one of the most anticipated films coming up next year, both because it’s a sequel to a popular movie and because of the huge names attached to it.

Aside from the return of Kilmer and Cruise, the cast also includes Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Miles Teller (Whiplash) and Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind).

Ed Harris, who is currently starring on Broadway in Aaron Sorkin’s To Kill A Mockingbird, will play the Cruise character’s new boss, while Connelly is his new love interest.

Monica recently completed a recurring role as Liz Melero, Grey’s (Jake Johnson) girlfriend, on the ABC series Stumptown. Since the cancellation of Chicago Justice, she’s starred in the Netflix cop series The Good Cop, recurred on Splitting Up Together, and guest-starred on Lethal Weapon.

Playing a fighter pilot is definitely a change of pace for her, and a change of pace for anyone who only knows her as Anna Valdez. But that’s what should make this exciting—audiences will get to see her in an action-oriented role, and hopefully getting to help save the day.
