Chicago PD season 7, episode 17 preview: Before The Fall

What should fans look for in this week’s episode of Chicago PD? Get ready for Before The Fall with our Chicago PD season 7, episode 17 preview.

Tonight’s episode of Chicago PD gives Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) both personal and professional obstacles to overcome if he wants to solve a case before another gang war breaks out.

“Before The Fall” will feature the Intelligence Unit going head-to-head with members of the Homicide Division, because even though they are supposed to be working together, Voight doesn’t always play fair.

Given that it’s usually Voight’s way or no way at all, it’s easy for Chicago PD fans to see where things will get tricky. The promotional photos show that a Homicide detective joins the team, as Detectives Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) get stuck watching over him.

His name is Paul Staples, and he butts heads with Voight during the investigation. We’re not exactly sure why, but these conflicts often start at the beginning, so maybe he tries to take the case, even though someone in Voight’s unit may have caught it first.

Given that Voight takes every case personally, it’s no surprise that he would be territorial, especially if he feels that Staples is disrespecting him or that the other man doesn’t know what he’s doing.

After all, Voight used to work in the Gang Unit for more than 15 years, which has left him with numerous connections that Intelligence could utilize in this episode—and that Staples almost certainly does not have.

While we admire his devotion to the Windy City, that can often be off-putting to outsiders who don’t know exactly how he operates. Not only is stepping into an unfamiliar case stressful enough, but when you’re working with Voight, you kind of have a ticking time bomb on your hands, as well. That can be a lot for anyone to handle.

And even though the Intelligence Unit is a well oiled machine, a shake-up can sometimes cause a bit of chaos. Hopefully they can rein in any turbulence before it impacts the investigation, since it’s a given that they’re working with a limited amount of time.

It looks like Officer Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) steps up to the plate on this case, as the photos for “Before The Fall” include him discussing matters with not only his sergeant, but a couple other people.

Later, he’s seen alongside his current partner, Vanessa Rojas (Lisseth Chavez) with their guns drawn as they enter some kind of building. It’s possible that Atwater and Rojas take the lead on this case, or end up caught in the middle between Voight and Staples.

Hopefully, Intelligence can sort out their latest internal conflict in enough time to keep Atwater and Rojas out of trouble, not to mention protect the citizens of Chicago.

We’ll find out just how much damage is done from the case, and the feud, when “Before the Fall” airs tonight at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
