What’s happening in this week’s Chicago PD episode? Find out about “Lines” with the Chicago PD season 7, episode 18 synopsis and teaser.

The next all-new episode of Chicago PD gives the newest member of the Intelligence Unit a case with a personal connection.

According to the synopsis and promo that NBC has released, Wednesday’s installment, “Lines,” puts Vanessa Rojas (Lisseth Chavez) in the spotlight once again. While tracking down a drug lord, the possibility arises that someone she knows is involved.

The last episode that centered around Rojas was ironically called “Center Mass” and it dealt with her bond with a mentally ill young man. She opened up a tiny bit about her foster home past during that episode to her partner, Kevin Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins).

“Lines” seems to have her lean on her friend and roommate, Detective Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) due to her personal investment in the case. The promotional trailer shows Rojas going a step too far to protect her old boyfriend, whom she’s known since she was eight.

What does she do? She actually erases the video file that showed her ex at the scene of the crime. Yikes, things are not looking good for Vanessa right now. It makes sense that a few seconds later, the promo shows Hailey warning her about the consequences of her actions.

“That’s obstruction, you could go to jail,” Hailey laments, although one could argue her expression leans a bit towards angry. Who could blame her though: it’s not the first time she’s told someone she cares about that they could go to prison for their rash actions.

Chicago PD fans will remember that she said a similar statement not once, but twice last season. In “Brotherhood,” she argued with then-fling Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) about taking the fall for Antonio Dawson (Jon Seda). She told him, “You are risking your career, jail time.”

The second instance followed only two episodes later in “Outrage,” when she found that her partner Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) lied about his arrival at a scene. She had said, “Jay, that’s official misconduct, you could go to prison.” See a pattern here?

But it’s not Upton we’re worried about, it’s Vanessa, as this is not the first time she’s let her heart weigh in over her head. While we admire her compassion for each case she takes on, this time, it could affect more than just her. Hailey can’t lose her roommate; Kevin can’t lose his partner, and Sergeant Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) can’t lose another member of his team.

Here’s how NBC officially describes the episode:

"Intelligence does everything they can to build a case against the elusive leader of a drug ring, but things get complicated when Rojas realizes someone she cares about might be involved."
