Chicago Fire is bringing us Cruz’s wedding in “Light Things Up,” and how emotional will it be? Look ahead in our Chicago Fire season 8, episode 19 preview.

One Chicago fans know that this week’s episode will be emotional. It’s the episode where Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) is getting married, and weddings are always worth a sniffle or two. But there could be many more reasons to cry beyond just the anticipated nuptials.

It’s lovely that Cruz has is tying the knot with his adorable fiancee Chloe (returning guest star Kristen Gutoskie, who figures to recur in the future now that the two characters will be husband and wife).

But what about the absence of Cruz’s best friend, Brian “Otis” Zvonecek (Yuri Sardarov), who was killed off in the Chicago Fire season 8 premiere?

Given how much Otis meant to Cruz, as well as to Chicago Fire fans, one figures there has to be some sort of reference to or inclusion of the character. It’s just not clear what form that will take.

Will we see Cruz depressed that Otis won’t be there to see him get married? What if Cruz is talking to his old friend before the ceremony starts, and Otis is there in spirit? There’s got to be some way to work that relationship into one of the biggest moments of Joe Cruz’s life.

It’s possible that “Light Things Up” will hold the wedding ceremony for the end of the episode or somewhere in the fourth act, because having that happy moment with Firehouse 51 and all the members of their extended family is exactly the kind of big scene that a TV episode would want to end on. If that’s the case, there’s going to be a whole half-hour or so to fill with the usual work plots.
