Chicago Med‘s hospital tensions boil over in “Just A River In Egypt.” Look ahead to this week’s episode with our Chicago Med season 5, episode 19 preview.

The hospital hasn’t always been an easy place to work this season, and that trend is poised to continue in this episode. What NBC has highlighted in their promo is the same argument that we have seen before—the love triangle, or not really, between Chexton and Marcel.

Dr. Ethan Choi (Brian Tee) is still upset, and this week it will land him in professional hot water. Showrunners Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider told One Chicago Center that Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) gets involved this week.

That’s bad for Choi, but good for One Chicago fans, who have commented more than once that we haven’t seen enough consequences for characters’ actions this season.

But what form will those consequences take? Will Goodwin just call Choi and Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains) into her office for a stern talking-to? Or will there be serious consequences like a suspension or a change of shifts? If the show is going to finally go here, it needs to be more than just a slap on the wrist.

Elsewhere in this Chicago Med episode, we’re going to see more of Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) working with his new love interest Dr. Hannah Asher (returning guest star Jessy Schram).

Fans know that Will thinks highly of Hannah as a doctor, and that he’s quite smitten with her personally—the last episode ended with him going up to her apartment—but that doesn’t mean they’ll work well together. Viewers have seen with Manstead that a love affair doesn’t stop two doctors from fighting like cats and dogs.

So while Will and Hannah may be on the same page in this episode, is it going to last? Is Will just going to trust Hannah blindly the way he has been recently, or could he start to question her a bit more? Could working together end up adding pressure to their renewed romantic entanglement?

“Just A River In Egypt” could move some of Chicago Med‘s relationships forward and put their baggage aside, or it could make them even more of a mess, which certainly wouldn’t be good for the patients that these doctors have to treat. Fingers crossed that the episode provides at least some kind of stability and resolution.
