Briarpatch was cancelled after one season at USA.

Brian Geraghty’s latest series Briarpatch has been officially cancelled at USA after one low-rated season.

Andy Greenwald, the showrunner of the freshman drama, broke the news on social media but it did not come as a surprise given what had happened during the season.

Geraghty, who starred on Chicago PD as Officer Sean Roman for two seasons, likewise had a lead role on the heavily promoted series—but audiences never caught on.

USA moved the show to a new time slot after just two episodes, a bad sign for the future of any show, but particularly one just two weeks young.

More recently, Geraghty signed up for a new series—the upcoming David E. Kelley drama Big Sky—which was a clear sign that Briarpatch wasn’t going to continue. Series regulars aren’t usually looking for another job if they think their current show is doing well.

Briarpatch starred Rosario Dawson as Allegra Dill, an investigator who returns to her quirky hometown of Saint Disgrace after her sister, a local detective, is murdered.

Geraghty played police captain Gene Colder, who was not only Allegra’s sister’s boss, but involved in a romantic relationship with her. He later ended up being accused of the murder.

The show was based on the Ross Thomas novel from way back in 1984. The regular cast also included Edi Gathegi (The Blacklist and The Blacklist: Redemption), Kim Dickens (Fear The Walking Dead), and Jay R. Ferguson (The Conners).

The good news from a One Chicago perspective is that Brian Geraghty fans already have his next TV project to look forward to. Big Sky was ordered directly to series by ABC and will premiere at an as-yet-undetermined time either this fall or in spring 2021.

Geraghty is also a regular on that show but this time he won’t be playing a cop—he’s portraying the serial killer that a pair of private investigators are chasing!
