Chicago Med season 6 character preview: Will Halstead

What should happen

The good news for Chicago Med fans is that Will finally got off the Natalie rollercoaster. As we’ve discussed in our character preview for Natalie, her life is full of drama, some she created herself and some that the show regularly inflicts upon her. And she always runs back to Will, so it was a true shock to see him reject her in season 5.

That being said, his current relationship with Hannah doesn’t seem to be much better, either on or off-screen. Going from adversaries to lovers never felt realistic and Will kept taking Hannah’s side in several situations, seeming biased the same way he used to with Natalie. So while his partner changed, his behavior is kind of similar. And since Jessy Schram is a recurring player we don’t know how long this will last. If the actress goes and gets another job, then the character could disappear quickly.

There’ve already been some spoilers about Will’s professional storylines and hopefully they don’t turn into more personal drama, as a lot of stories on Chicago Med seem to. It’d be nice to see Will advance his career since we haven’t seen a lot of upward mobility for any of our doctors, save the building of the hybrid OR. If Will gets onto a big new project and his relationship lasts then he could truly grow. If not, well…he could just get mired in more of other people’s drama.
