Jon Seda is officially heading back to NBC by way of NBC’s newest original drama La Brea after all.

As One Chicago fans will recall, Seda was originally attached to star in the series in development from NBC; however, as a result of NBC delaying the pilot until 2021, Seda and several other members of the case were released from their contracts.

When word broke last month that NBC had ordered La Brea to series, speculation began growing over whether Seda would return to the project given NBC had not yet recast his role. It now seems NBC has officially put pen to paper in inking a new deal for Seda to return to the role after all.

According to a new report from Variety, Seda has signed back onto the project which will mark his official return to NBC following his stints on Chicago PD and Chicago Justice. Given how disappointed fans were when Seda was cut from the project, it should excite fans to know he’s officially rejoined the series.

He joins fellow returning cast members Veronica St. Clair and Chiké Okonkwo, as well as newly cast Eoin Macken — who will also be making his return to NBC after four seasons on NBC’s medical drama The Night Shift.

What is NBC’s La Brea about?

While NBC’s One Chicago franchise is very much set in the real world in telling the stories of the brave first-responders on the frontlines, La Brea is a sci-fi drama that is sure to keep fans on the edge of their seats as the show unravels what promises to be a compelling mystery.

Here’s how NBC officially describes La Brea:

"When a massive sinkhole mysteriously opens in Los Angeles, it tears a family in half, separating mother and son from father and daughter. When part of the family find themselves in an unexplainable primeval world, alongside a disparate group of strangers, they must work to survive and uncover the mystery of where they are and if there is a way back home."

Who does Jon Seda play in La Brea?

In La Brea, Seda will play the role of Dr. Sam Velez, the father of a teenage daughter who is described as carrying himself as an Army general. Given the way the character is described, it seems Sam might perhaps be a single father and a strict one at that.

After several seasons as Antonio Dawson, it’s going to great seeing Seda back on NBC and this role seems should provide him with a lot of meaty material to dive into!
