NBC has ordered Jon Seda’s former pilot La Brea to series.

An interesting development at NBC this week: the network ordered disaster drama La Brea to series.

One Chicago fans know that Jon Seda was supposed to star in La Brea, until he was cut from the pilot in June.

But Deadline is reporting that his role still has to be recast. And Seda hasn’t been attached to any other TV projects since, so he should theoretically be available.

So here’s a thought: why not re-hire Jon Seda for the La Brea role he landed in the first place?

For those who don’t remember, the Chicago PD alum was supposed to play an ex-Navy SEAL named Benjamin Glass. Glass is one of several people involved when a massive sinkhole opens up in Los Angeles, revealing a “primeval world” on the other side.

But when the project was delayed by COVID-19, Seda and the majority of the cast were released from their contracts by the network.

Considering that NBC hasn’t found somebody else to play Benjamin Glass yet and Jon Seda is still available, it would make sense to at least consider bringing him back for the part. Seda obviously did something that the network and producers liked with the character, or they wouldn’t have cast him in the first place.

He also has a wide appeal on the network; aside from being the most popular One Chicago actor for the better part of a decade, he also spent years on Homicide: Life on the Street, which crossed over with Law & Order, and starred in the short-lived series UC: Undercover.

The only reason not to bring him back would be if the writers have significantly changed the Glass character from the original script—something audiences won’t find out until whenever the show is set to premiere.

Until then, let’s hope that Jon Seda gets a second chance at La Brea.
