This is Colin’s second Hallmark movie and Patti’s third; the duo both appeared in 2020’s Love on Iceland, and Patti had a supporting role in 2019’s Holiday for Heroes.
While it’s a shame that their characters aren’t the central duo—could you imagine what kind of a hit Hallmark would have if they paired Colin Donnell and Patti Murin up to solve crimes together in one of their mystery movie series?! It practically writes itself—it’ll be great to see them back on our TVs, and working together again on top of that.
Colin portrayed Dr. Connor Rhodes on Chicago Med for its first four seasons; Connor was written out in the season 5 premiere when he took a job at the Mayo Clinic, and he hasn’t been heard from or even mentioned since. Patti recurred as pathologist Dr. Nina Shore and it was always a downer that their characters didn’t get any real screen time together, but the TV universe seems to be making up for that now!
Here’s the official To Catch A Spy description straight from Hallmark:
"When the newly renovated Hotel Optima in Malta has a grand reopening, Chloe and her team from Destination Traveler Magazine, which includes Sara, head over to cover the travel scene in Malta. On her first night in Malta, Chloe overhears an altercation happening through the air vent of her hotel room and then sees someone fall to their death—right past her hotel window! Chloe assists the FBI agent, Aaron (Donnell), working on the case but will they catch the killer before the killer finds them?"
Other than Patti Murin and Colin Donnell, Hallmark has employed a few other One Chicago stars over the years. Charlotte Sullivan (Chicago Fire) recently starred in a Hallmark romance, while Med actress Torrey DeVitto has appeared in two of their movies, and Jeff Hephner has been in a pair of Hallmark productions as well.
If you don’t know where Hallmark Movies & Mysteries is for you, there’s a channel locator on their website. Many Hallmark movies also get released for iTunes rental/purchase after they premiere, though not all of them and it usually takes a little while.
