The countdown to Chicago Med season 7 is officially underway as we’re now less than a month away from the new seasons of NBC’s One Chicago series.

With just a few weeks to go until new episodes return, we’re still waiting to receive our first official looks at the upcoming season.

Sure there have been plenty of spoiler-filled behind-the-scenes photos to keep us talking this offseason, but there’s nothing like being treated to our first official looks at the new season be it through the season 7 trailer, first look images, or even just the season 7 key art.

While NBC has not yet released any images or video teasers and it remains unclear when these could be coming, the first official synopsis for season 7 has arrived to gift us with plenty of spoilers about what’s to come for our favorite characters including what’s next for Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) and Ethan (Brian Tee), who both found themselves in uniquely different yet concerning places as season 6 came to a close.

Chicago Med season 7 spoilers

So just what lies ahead for our favorite doctors and nurses this season on Chicago Med? Let’s take a look at what the new season 7 synopsis reveals about where we can expect to find each character as the season begins!

Up first we have Dr. Will Halstead. As fans will recall, the season 6 finale very much left Will’s future at the hospital in question and it looks like this is a storyline the series will be exploring as the season begins. As NBC teases, Will “finds his career as an emergency medicine physician in jeopardy, following his cover-up involving a serious ethics violation.”

Another character whose future was put into question as season 6 came to an end was Dr. Ethan Choi, who ended the season recovering from a near-death encounter with a former patient. While there have been questions over whether a time jump would see Ethan back up and operating at full speed as the season began, the new season 7 synopsis has revealed Ethan “begins the season in recovery mode after being shot,” thus confirming Ethan will still be on the mend as the season begins.

With Ethan recovering, Dr. Dean Archer (Steven Weber) will get a taste of power as he works to “show what he’s made of as interim chief.” Fortunately for those in the ER, they’ll be able to count on Maggie Lockwood (Marlyne Barrett) to keep the ER running smoothly as well — though it seems her relationship with her daughter will be weighing heavily on her.

Speaking of keeping things running smoothly, NBC teases that season 7 finds Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) “under intense fiscal scrutiny to preserve the bottom line while continuing to ensure that all patients receive nothing short of quality care and compassion.” In other words, it sounds like Goodwin could be pressed to make some changes around the hospital this season which could include some potential cost-cutting decisions.

While little has been revealed about what’s to come for Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt) and Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains), NBC has promised Dr. Charles will remain the “Sherlock Holmes of psychiatry” while suggesting we might see a less guarded Crocket this year.

Finally, there is the tease of the season’s two newest additions in Dr. Stevie Hammer (Kristen Hager) and Dr. Dylan Scott (Guy Lockard). While we’ve learned a bit about the characters already upon their initial casting, the new synopsis for the season teases Dr. Hammer will have a “surprising past” and that Dr. Scott will be dabbling in two specialties in pursuing a dual residency in emergency medicine and pediatrics.

Clearly, there is going to be a lot to look forward to as season 7 begins this fall and there are a lot of exciting developments ahead for both our returning favorites and this season’s new faces!
