Chicago PD season 9: Is anyone leaving Chicago PD?

Chicago PD has been making lots of changes as of late. Season 9 has planted a flag in the dirt between Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Voight (Jason Beghe), as the former has been asked to snitch Voight out in order to save himself.

The uncertainty over whether Halstead will roll over on Voight has many fans waiting with baited breath. It could mean the end of his career with the IU unit, or Voight’s, meaning the show will be changed forever.

With that in mind, here’s a rundown of the Chicago PD cast and whether any of them have plans to leave during season 9.

Chicago PD season 9 cast changes

So far, there have been no major announcements regarding changes in the Chicago PD cast. All the primary cast members are sticking with the show, and all the drama surrounding the departure of a character is for the sake of storytelling.

The two biggest question marks, of course, revolve around Soffer and Beghe. Their characters are the ones faced with a potentially life-altering decision, and the show is currently posing it like only one of them can survive the season 8 cover-up.

Beghe isn’t leaving the show anytime soon. Chicago PD has already been renewed for another season, and rolling the dice with a new protagonist would jeopardize the brand that fans have come to know and love over the past decade. Voight is a Chicago PD staple, and Beghe has expressed nothing but happiness during his tenure.

Soffer is similarly unlikely to depart. He discussed his character during an interview with Cinemablend, and hinted at lots of interesting developments that have yet to come to fruition.

"When asked whether he sees Halstead getting promoted during season 9, he said: “The next rank is sergeant, and we have Sergeant Voight. So I think the only way for Jay to get a promotion to sergeant would be for Voight to get a promotion.”"

Furthermore, Soffer said that lots of things will happen between Halstead and Voight before a promotion enters the picture. “I don’t know if we’re gonna see any of that”, he remarked. “I think there’s gonna be a lot that goes on between Jay and Voight before anything like that happens.”

Fans can rest assured that their favorite characters/actors are going to stick around, though it remains to be seen how they’re going to do so and what’s going to happen to the characters in the One Chicago universe. As always, that remains the most exciting part.
