Chicago PD: Will Upton confess to killing Roy?
Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) is caught in a bind. Not only has the guilt over killing Roy Walton (Michael Maize) taken over her life, but her actions have put her fiancé, Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer), in harm’s way. The latter is tasked with saving his and Upton’s necks by pinning the blame for the murder on Voight (Jason Beghe).
The dilemma laid in Halstead’s lap is especially tricky because the audience knows about it and Upton does not. It’s unclear whether Halstead will share the information with her or not, but it’s possible that Upton could spills the beans and confess before Halstead has a chance to put the squeeze on Voight.
Let’s take a look at the evidence and determine whether Upton will confess to Roy’s killing.
Will Hailey Upton get arrested in Chicago PD?
Upton has been an upstanding cop from the moment she was introduced in season 3. She has faith in the system, as opposed to some of her more cynical peers, and she always does what she considers to be the right thing.
Roy Walton’s death was a hiccup in this ideology. Upton was forced to use lethal force on Roy, and the illegal circumstances in which she happened upon him (Voight was in the midst of a violent interrogation) put her in the difficult situation of having to cover for her commanding officer.
The inclusion of Halstead complicates things further. The cop has been bumping heads with Voight all season, and it’s safe to assume that he would opt to turn Voight in if it meant saving his career and Upton’s. If Upton discovers that Halstead plans to leave Voight holding the bag, her sense of right and wrong could kick in, prompting her to confess to her involvement in the killing.

Upton has already proved that she’s tough to crack under interrogation. Despite the best efforts of the FBI to get under her skin and drum up the traumas of her past, the cop remained steadfast in her commitment to the cover-up. By that logic, the only thing that would get her to confess would be to save others from unjust punishments.
Upton is a decent person and a decent cop, so we can’t see an outcome in which she lets Voight take the blame single-handedly. We anticipate she’ll take responsibility for what she did, and we hope the powers that be take the muddled circumstances into account.
