Chicago Med boss confirms Brian Tee won’t return for several episodes

Brian Tee might have extended his contract with Chicago Med during the offseason, but that hasn’t stopped him from missing several episodes of the show’s current seventh season which has led many to question his future with the show.

After missing the first six episodes of season 7, Ethan finally returned in episode 7, an episode that helped to catch viewers up on his recovery and seemed to suggest he was finally back for good.

Instead, in the eighth episode of the season, Ethan experienced a setback in his recovery which left him in need of at least two more months of rehab following another surgery. As a result, Ethan was once again MIA in the fall finale and it seems he’ll remain away for several more episodes.

Has Ethan left Chicago Med?

From the moment it was mentioned that Ethan would need at least two more months of rehab to work through his injury, fans began questioning whether the character was about to once again step away with his recovery once again taking place off-screen.

These suspicions seemed to be confirmed in the Chicago Med season 7 fall finale with Ethan once again missing from the show in what will be another break for the character.

The plan seems to be for Ethan’s recovery to continue to take place off-screen, but fans can rest assured in knowing that Ethan has not left the series. Rather, he’s simply going to be missing a few more episodes this season due to Brian Tee’s availability which has been more limited due to his role in Amazon’s new series Expats. 

So when exactly will Brian Tee return to Chicago Med to give fans an update on Ethan’s recovery? Well, the answer is a bit complicated.

When will Ethan return to Chicago Med?

After returning for the seventh and eighth episodes of Chicago Med‘s seventh season, Brian Tee will be taking yet another series of breaks from the show which will result in Ethan’s absence from a number of upcoming episodes of the show.

As Chicago Med executive producers Diane Frolov revealed in a recent interview with TV Insider, Ethan will next appear in the twelfth episode of season 7 in an episode that will find Ethan in therapy and recovering from his latest surgery.

However, the episode will just be used to help whet viewer’s appetites it seems as Frolov has confirmed Ethan will not return for good until season 7, episode 18! That’s right, it appears Ethan will be missing a large majority of the season which is definitely disappointing for fans of the character.

It’s going to be interesting to go so many more episodes without Ethan, but at least we now have an official timeline for when to next expect Brian Tee to appear this season.
