Is Sarah Rafferty leaving Chicago Med? (Have we seen the last of Pamela Blake?)

Chicago Med season 7 welcomed a wave of new faces to the halls of Gaffney Medical Center. Among the many new doctors fans had the pleasure of meeting last season was Sarah Rafferty’s transplant surgeon Dr. Pamela Blake, who became a breakout favorite among fans.
Across the season, Pamela played a significant role in the show and Dr. Crockett Marcel’s storyline in the season as she became his mentor and love interest. While the pair at first clashed, by the end of the season they had not only become romantically involved but Crockett had become Pamela’s righthand man.
The pair had grown so close that when the time came for Pamela to undergo complicated surgery in the season 7 finale, she chose to give Crockett power of attorney over her daughter. She did so because it was her belief that he would be able to make the right call if it came down to saving her life or saving her hands which were the key to her career as a transplant surgeon.
However, when a complication in her surgery arose, Crockett was forced to decide whether to risk Pamela losing feeling in her hands or possibly losing her. Despite knowing Pamela’s feelings about protecting her hands, he made the decision to prioritize her life over her hands — a decision that could cost Pamela her career.
As we learned in the closing moments of the season, Pamela suffered a minor stroke which resulted in a lack of mobility in her hands and a long recovery ahead of her. The plot twist was one that left fans concerned about the character’s future on the show, but is there actually a reason for concern?
Will Sarah Rafferty be back as Pamela Blake on Chicago Med?
Unfortunately, it’s looking like Sarah Rafferty will not be back in a recurring role in Chicago Med season 8 which is disappointing but not too surprising. Leading into the season premiere, there have been no signs of Rafferty or her character in any promotional materials including the season’s poster, teaser or images.
Of course, we can’t rule out a possible one-off appearance to write her character off, but it’s looking like Pamela will be checking out of Med this season.

As teased in the season 7 finale, Pamela has a long recovery ahead of her which is a storyline fans are familiar with as just last year Dr. Ethan Choi was sidelined for the majority of the season from injury. His recovery took place off camera to accommodate the limited schedule of actor Brian Tee.
Given Pamela survived her surgery, one would assume the door would be left open for her to return and, who knows, maybe that return will come as early as sometime in season 8!
