Chicago Fire season 12 is officially happening, and we need it after that season 11 finale ending. When will we get to see new episodes on NBC?
We’re used to big endings in the Chicago Fire finales. In fact, all the One Chicago franchises tend to bring us cliffhangers that need to be resolved in the new season. We won’t get into the details of the finale in this post, so don’t worry about spoilers.
Instead, we’re looking at when the new season will premiere. Chicago Fire is now on its summer break, but we know it will eventually come back. It’s just not happening in June 2023.

When will Chicago Fire season 12 premiere on NBC?
There is a lot in the air this year. Right now, NBC is preparing for a traditional fall schedule. Wednesdays will remain the same, with Chicago Fire season 12 airing in the 9 p.m. ET/PT timeslot. It’s set for a fall return, and usually, we would say that is in late September.
That’s probably not going to happen this year. The writers are on strike, and until the strike ends, there are no scripts to film. Even if there were, filming without writers is a bad idea. There would be no writers for any rewrites that happen on set. Plus, there is potential for SAG to go on strike, which will affect production and post-production.
There is a lot in flux this year. NBC may need to use its Plan B for the fall. This could push Chicago Fire season 12 and more to 2024. ABC already decided to opt for an unscripted fall and bring scripted shows back in 2024. It might have been the wiser move considering the strike action that continues.
