It's a good day to be a 911 fan. The long-running procedural series was just renewed by ABC for its ninth season, meaning that Captain Bobby Nash, Sergeant Athena Grant, and so many more of our beloved favorites will be around to entertain us for another year.

That's the kind of news you like to hear, especially as we head into an incredibly intense episode of the series. "Invisible", the thirteenth episode of season 8, looks to put the 118 in yet another life-or-death situation and the stakes couldn't be any higher. Meanwhile, Eddie Diaz will look to take the next step in his recently-repaired relationship with his son Christopher.

If you're ready for what 911 season 8 has in store this week, let's dive into all of the events of "Invisible" now.

A really bad day

We open with a man named Archie. Archie seems like a nice, kind man, but he is told by his boss that he is being let go by the fast-food company Pluck and Cluck. He tries to fight his corner but it doesn't work; he has lost his job. Poor Archie heads home to find the house a mess and his fiancée nowhere in sight.

To make matters worse, he gets trapped in the bed - yes in the bed, just as his fiancée and his cousin arrive home. It turns out that they are having an affair, and they are getting intimate on the bed in which he is trapped in. His smart watch dials 911 and the 118 arrive to save him. He's fine, but he opts to go to the medical room to get checked out because he can no longer be around his infuriating cousin and fiancée, both of whom betrayed him.

Archie particularly bonds with Hen when he tells her that he feels invisible. It's a feeling that Hen has become all too familiar with as people seem to have forgotten that it's her birthday. Athena didn't, as she called her friend personally and wished her a happy birthday. The same unfortunately can't be said for the 118.

Meanwhile, Archie decides to live out of his car so that he won't get in anyone's' way, but his attempt to make himself invisible backfires as his car is ultimately towed away with all of his stuff in it. A group of people rush by him to get on a nearby bus, forcing him to drop what's left of his belongings. Enraged, he grabs one of his knives and gets on the bus.

Archie simply holds the knife on the bus in front of the passengers but he tells them that he doesn't want to harm anyone. Unfortunately, the trap that the police lays for the bus results in a nearby passenger falling onto the knife when trying to reason with Archie. The 118 arrive and Hen is able to successfully talk Archie down, getting the stabbed man the medical attention that he needs. She then convinces Archie to come out of the bus with her. He attempts to reach into his pocket to give her her birthday present (a Cluck and Pluck keychain) but Hen pushes him to the ground to save his life as the police prepares to shoot him (mistaking his good-willed thought as an attempt to pull out a firearm). She successfully saves his life in the process.

Hen then celebrates her birthday with her family, Athena and Bobby, and Buck - who has agreed to do work around the house for them until he stops feeling guilty. Hen jokes that she and Karen will probably have Buck at their house until the fall, adding that this might just be her favorite birthday yet.

Eddie's fresh start with Christopher

Eddie Diaz has a plan to enhance his relationship with Christopher after the two found some common ground in the previous episode. It all starts with his hope to take his son to the Mavericks' game this weekend, and he's cooking some dinner to help him broach the idea. However, things don't quite work out when his parents arrive and bring their own takeout food too, instantly undermining that plan.

Things get worse when Eddie attempts to tell his son about the tickets he got for him. His father Ramon reveals that they can't make plans this weekend as Chris has his chess tournament and only one parent is allowed to accompany him. His mother Helena then says that the parent will be Ramon, as he has been his chess coach. Eddie subsequently offers to take him and gets pushback from his mother, so he relents.

Although Ramon does take Christopher to the tournament, Eddie decides to go separately to watch. Ramon doesn't know he's there, but he looks increasingly nervous for Chris, who eventually throws up due to his own nerves. Eddie takes him into the bathroom to get him cleaned up, at which point Chris confesses that he hates chess. Eddie tells him that he doesn't have to do anything he doesn't like. He then tells him that he's moving back in with him. Chris is happy about the idea, asking if Eddie will be his dad again. But, as Eddie puts it, he's always been his dad.

Eddie then returns to his mother's house and begins packing up some essentials for Chris, telling her that he's taking his son to live with him now. He also reveals that Chris never loved chess, just as he fell out of love with ballroom dancing when it became all about trophies. He tells his mom that he loves her and takes Christopher home. The two literally drive off into the sunset together; father and son reunited at last.
