Cameras have officially begun rolling on Chicago Fire season 15 and new information is gradually making its way online about the highly anticipated return of NBC’s OG One Chicago drama.
While we’ve not yet learned any spoilers about the fates of our favorite firefighters, whose lives were left hanging in the balance in a shocking season 14 finale cliffhanger, the creative team has been hard at work in bringing in some key new characters. It’s already been announced that season 15 will introduce a new series regular with the addition of Da'Vinchi as new firefighter candidate Marcus Burke, and we know the show has been casting extras to play key background roles in the season whose presence has us concerned about the futures of a few characters.
Now, it seems the show is working on casting a pair of new characters that could end up playing a major role in the storyline of one original character: Joe Cruz!
As season 14 drew to a close, we learned that Cruz and Chloe’s family would soon be growing once again, this time via the arrival of a pair of twins. While we don’t yet know whether Cruz will make it out of the building fire from the season 14 finale, the odds are looking to be in his favor as casting is currently underway for a pair of newborn twins.
Casting is currently underway for a pair of “Caucasian or Latino twin newborns for featured scenes,” and the timing of this casting certainly seems to suggest that the twins will be playing Chloe and Cruz’s twins on the show. Given casting is underway for the roles, the timing does align, as we’re not expecting Chloe to deliver the twins in the premiere and their delivery will likely occur a few episodes into the season.
In addition to casting the featured roles of the twins most likely to play Chloe and Cruz’s newest bundles of joy, the show is also casting several background roles for infants around the same age. This seems to suggest that the show might be planning some scenes in which Chloe and Cruz are in the hospital nursery or perhaps a shot in which Cruz’s family at 51 drops in to get to meet the Cruz twins via a shot of the group looking into a hospital nursery where they’ll see the infants in the plastic bassinets.
Hopefully, Cruz is around for the birth of his twins, as it would be a cruel twist of fate for the show to kill off his character after introducing the pregnancy storyline in season 14. There is nothing we want more than to see Cruz and Chloe navigate this new normal as their family grows, and we’d love to see more of Cruz’s family dynamics, including more scenes in which we get to see him navigating fatherhood with help from his family at 51.
