Chicago Fire season 14 has officially come to an end, and the wait for season 15 has begun. Season 14 certainly went out with a bang, delivering one of the biggest season-ending cliffhangers in the history of Chicago Fire.Â
As season 14 drew to an end, the lives of nearly every member of Firehouse 51 were left up in the air after things went sideways during a building fire call. Each member of Squad 3, along with Mouch, found themselves trapped in the building as the roof collapsed above them while all four members of Truck 81 were engulfed in flames while escaping the roof moments before it collapsed. The only characters whose lives were not left up in the air were paramedics Violet and Novak, who were outside the building along with former 51 chief Dom Pascal.Â
After the shocking end to season 14, fans are eagerly waiting for season 15 to return and wondering exactly how long they have to wait before Chicago Fire returns.Â
The bad news is that we have a long summer break ahead. The good news is that Chicago Fire will return in the fall, and we have a pretty good idea of when the new season is most likely to premiere.Â
Chicago Fire season 15 should premiere between September 23 and October 7, 2026
When NBC renewed the One Chicago shows, there was never any doubt that the shows would return in the fall, as Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago PD have been staples of NBC's fall lineup for years now. For this reason, it was of little surprise when NBC confirmed that all three One Chicago shows would be back on Wednesday nights in the fall as part of its 2026-27 TV season schedule.
Knowing that Chicago Fire season 14 will premiere in the fall, the question became when exactly in the fall might the season begin. While we'll have to wait for NBC to confirm the exact premiere date closer to the launch of the fall season, history shows that NBC tends to kick off its fall seasons between the second-to-last week of September and the first week of October.
Should NBC follow this similar approach with its Fall 2026 programming slate, that would mean there are three dates we'll likely see Chicago Fire season 15 premiere on:
- Wednesday, September 23
- Wednesday, September 30
- Wednesday, October 7
Of these dates, September 30 is looking the most likely, as the last two years saw the new seasons of the One Chicago shows arriving the final week of September, with season 13 premiering on September 25 and season 14 premiering on October 1.
There is always a chance that NBC could change things up in the fall, but the network seems to follow a similar release schedule every year and we can't imagine it will suddenly delay the One Chicago shows' returns to mid-to-late October. That's not to say it might not happen, but history shows NBC tends to kick off its season as September comes to a close with October dates sneaking in when the final week of September overlaps with the beginning of October.
