Before Chicago Med's season season began airing, it was revealed that a series of mini crossovers with Chicago Fire had been planned for the upcoming episodes. Furthermore, one of the powerbrokers behind the franchise revealed that those mini crossovers would play out by having a character from Chicago Fire make a series of appearances on Chicago Med. At the time of that revelation, there was no way to know what that would lead to for the popular medical drama.
Throughout Chicago Med's history, the show has introduced several elements that were far better than expected. One example of that is that the show introduced an underrated character who was so compelling that they need to be reintroduced to the series soon. More recently, Chicago Med introduced a love triangle involving Chicago Fire's crossover character that has been a lot more delightful to see than many observers expected.

What makes Chicago Med's love triangle so delightful?
From the moment that Dr. John Frost was introduced to Chicago Med, there was no doubt that he was a likable character. Additionally, the show's storylines often made it very obvious that many of the show's female characters found Dr. Frost very attractive. Since Dr. Frost's second season on the show began, storylines have begun to take advantage of those two factors, as he now finds himself at the center of a love triangle.
On the one hand, Dr. Frost was so taken with his co-worker, Dr. Naomi Howard, that he asked her out, only to get rejected in the moment. After that initial rejection, it was quickly revealed that Dr. Howard actually was attracted to Dr. Frost, she turned him down out of fear for her reputation, and she regretted that choice. In that short interim, a paramedic named Lizzie Novak, who has appeared in many Chicago Fire episodes, began flirting with Dr. Frost. Dr. Frost and Novak's mutual attraction quickly became apparent as they circled each other.
With the hints at a love triangle already set up, Chicago Med season 11, episode 7, "Double Down" cemented that reality. During that episode, Dr. Howard confessed her attraction and regrets to Dr. Frost in a moment that left viewers with questions about which woman he would opt to pursue. While this kind of storyline has been a television staple for decades, there are simple reasons why Chicago Med's love triangle has been especially great.
There is a principal reason why many TV love triangles have fallen short, the two potential love interests are obviously lopsided. After all, if viewers only want the person in the middle to pick one of his love interests, the other will quickly feel like an annoying distraction. In the case of Chicago Med's recently introduced love triangle, it seems like it would be compelling to see Dr. Frost get involved with either woman.
In Novak's case, the paramedic's playful encounters with Dr. Frost are a lot of fun to behold as she challenges him at every turn. The moment that exemplified that was when Dr. Frost asked for Novak's number, and she wrote 911 on his arm.
On the other hand, seeing Dr. Frost ending up with Dr. Howard has seemingly endless potential for both characters. In Dr. Frost's case, getting involved with such a gorgeous and intelligent character could easily alter his priorities in a compelling way. At the same time, Dr. Frost seems to have the ability to bring Dr. Howard out of her shell. Since Dr. Howard has such an expressive face, the show has often relied on viewers being able to read her unspoken emotions. As impressive as that has been to see, it would be great to see Dr. Howard speak up more.
At the end of Chicago Med's fall finale, the show set up a cliffhanger about the fate of Dr. Caitlin Lenox. Since I am confident that character will survive the predicament she finds herself in, I am much more interested in seeing what will happen to the love triangle when the show returns.
