The Chicago PD season 14 cast has officially been revealed, but one major casting announcement is still missing ahead of the premiere.

The countdown to Chicago PD season 14 is officially underway. We’re now roughly a month away from the show’s return to NBC with new episodes, which makes it only fitting that NBC has finally confirmed the core cast for the season!

This week, the first poster for the season arrived, and with its arrival came the confirmation that all of the season 13 series regular cast will be back in action for the new season… well, at least for a few episodes.

Season 14 will open with the departure of LaRoyce Hawkins as Officer Kevin Atwater, bringing an end to his 13-season run on the show. Fans will bid farewell to Hawkins at the top of the season with his final episode coming with season 14, episode 2. Thankfully, it seems that Hawkins is the only cast member who will be exiting the series this season with every other member of the cast set to return. This includes Amy Morton as Sergeant Trudy Platt, a character who has been part of the show from the beginning whose future seemed up in the air following a string of rumors suggesting she could be exiting the show.

Thankfully, Morton will return, and she’ll be joined by fellow original stars Jason Beghe (Hank Voight), Marina Squerciati (Kim Burgess), and Patrick John Flueger (Adam Ruzek). Beghe, Squerciati, Flueger, and Morton have all been part of the cast from the beginning, and their returns in season 14 will make them some of the longest-tenured characters in the One Chicago franchise.

Also back for season 14 are more recent additions, Benjamin Levy Aguilar (Dante Torres) and Arienne Mandi (Eva Imani). Aguilar is entering his fifth season as a series regular after making a guest appearance in season 9 before returning full-time in season 10, while this will be Mandi's second season with the show after joining the show just last year in season 13.

There is one key character who is missing from the cast, though that is by design at the moment.

With the departure of Hawkins, it has been confirmed that Chicago PD season 14 will introduce a new member to the Intelligence Unit, one designed to fill the void left by Atwater’s exit. Little is known about this new character other than that they will be a new series regular and will be a Black cop who is described as being an agent of chaos.

Casting for the role was said to have begun before cameras started rolling on the new season; however, we have yet to get confirmation of the actor who will be joining the Chicago PD cast in the role. As such, it’s likely we won’t meet this new character until at least a few episodes into the season.

Considering that Hawkins’ final episode will come in the second episode of season 14 and there have been no casting announcements to date, we imagine this new character won’t be introduced until episode 4 or 5 at the absolute earliest. That will probably be for the best, as fans are not thrilled about Hawkins’ departure, nor are they excited about his replacement being the complete opposite of Atwater and teased as being yet another chaotic character.

We’ll see who fills that role and joins the returning cast soon enough as Chicago PD season 14 kicks off on Wednesday, October 7, at 10/9c on NBC!
