CBS has released the synopsis for FBI Season 8, and one particular line could hint at the fate of one beloved character. What do we know so far about the series before it returns to television on a new night?
FBI Season 7 ended with Alana De La Garza’s Isobel Castille collapsing from injuries she had sustained during an attack on FBI headquarters earlier that day. Despite appearing to be fine and trying to get her job done, the adrenaline caught up to her, and she fainted in front of the entire staff.
Now the newly released synopsis has continued to leave fans guessing as to whether she actually survived. The synopsis noted that Jubal Valentine (Jeremy Sisto) would have to face the heavy reality of taking on a new leadership role within the FBI. Does this mean that he takes over Isobel’s job because she passed away?

Could Isobel have survived her injuries on FBI and will return for season 8?
This doesn’t necessarily mean that Isobel is no longer alive. There is no confirmation on whether De La Garza is exiting the series. Isobel could be taking time off work or has decided to retire due to the close call, which would still have Jubal in the running to take over. It would still be a big change and adjustment since he normally leads the rest of the staff while Isobel takes care of things behind the scenes.
However things play out for the team, the synopsis also details the case that the rest of the agents will be working on. The episode, titled “Takeover,” will find the team looking into the disappearance of a federal judge. They learn he had been searching for his son, who was missing, and his own personal hunt has led him to a secluded island.
Hopefully, we do find out Isobel is just taking some off to recover from her injuries from the terrorist attack that almost took her life. We have had plenty of news about cast comings and goings this summer, but nothing about De La Garza, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed!
In addition to knowing the synopsis for the first episode, we also know that Emily Alabi’s time on the show will also come to an end, despite it seeming like she’d be Stuart Scola’s (John Boyd) new partner. That does not seem to be the case, since she will have an exit arc in season 8.
There is a new face coming in the form of Juliana Aidén Martinez, but details about her character remain unknown. Whatever happens when the show returns, we’re excited to watch!
FBI Season 8 premieres on Monday, October 13 at 9/8c. Previous episodes are available to watch on Paramount+.
