Before Chicago Fire season 15 was even weeks away from premiering on NBC, the new season was perhaps one of the most highly anticipated seasons in recent history. In fact, fans were ready to roll right into the next batch of new episodes after the season 14 finale put the entire team in harm's way. Between who might not make it and meeting the new cast members, there's a lot of excitement.
Because the fate of the Firehouse 51 team was put at risk in the season 14 finale, the questions surrounding the cast's future were expectedly loud during the hiatus. Dermot Mulroney and Joe Miñoso were confirmed to be leaving the series, but we shouldn't take that as confirmation of Pascal and Cruz's fate. And we shouldn't assume that the new characters are taking their place.
This summer, Chicago Fire season 15 added Da'Vinchi as a new series regular and Matthew Daddario as a new recurring character. Both actors join the cast as prospective firefighters, who are currently candidates working with the team before joining full time. Ahead of the season 15 premiere, the latest trailer for the new season offered a quick glimpse at the newbies.
Chicago Fire season 15 trailer teases two new firefighters
While the trailer recently released by NBC features plenty more tidbits about what to expect from the premiere episode, we caught our first look at Da'Vinchi and Daddario in action. In the teaser, the new characters are seen walking toward the firehouse wearing shirts with "candidate" written on them while the more seasoned members of the team welcome them and poke fun at them being new.
Da'Vinchi plays the character Marcus Burke, who sounds an awful lot like Vasquez (Brandon Larracuente) in the sense that they both have a bit of defiance in them that can rear its ugly head from time to time. Perhaps he's who Kidd (Miranda Rae Mayo) gives a polite but stern warning to in the trailer. She's been here plenty of times before, most recently with Vasquez last season.
Daddario will be playing a fellow firefighter candidate, though NBC hasn't yet offered details about the actor's character, including his name or a description. From the limited footage of both Daddario and Da'Vinchi's characters that we have seen so far, it's hard to glean any real details, but that doesn't make the prospect of meeting the new blood at Firehouse 51 any less exciting.
Sure, some long-time Chicago Fire fans might feel a certain kind of way about the series welcoming new cast members when the turnaround has been consistent and chaotic over the course of the show's run. Not to mention, we're also losing one of the last remaining original characters with Miñoso's departure as Cruz. You can't blame fans for feeling the sting of this particular loss.
But we'll have to stay patient until Chicago Fire season 15 finally arrives to answer our questions and reveal all about the new arrivals and unfortunate departures. Even well over a decade later and the series continues to keep us on our toes season after season. There's surely plenty more surprises and twists in store this season that we won't see coming.
