We're all thinking about the marriage proposal that Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) made to Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) in the Chicago Fire season 11 finale. It was a bombshell moment, and one that we have had to sit with for much longer than usual, due to the Hollywood strikes.

All the information we've gotten about the outcome of the proposal has been indirect, like the NBC announcement that Kara Killmer would be leaving the show at some point during season 12. At least, it was indirect until Chicago Fire showrunner Andrea Newman addressed the cliffhanger ending in an interview with TV Line.

Newman, who took over showrunner duties from Derek Haas, told the outlet that the proposal will not go as smoothly as some fans may want it to go. "Brett’s answer to Casey’s proposal is a mystery," she revealed, before going on to provide more hints of what's to come:

" "[It will be revealed] during an incident at 51 where Violet has to get creative to save the day.""

Chicago Fire has a knack for squeezing drama out of juicy storylines, and a marriage proposal that doesn't go according to plan is as juicy as they come. It'll be interesting to see how Violet (Hanako Greensmith) factors in to the proposal, though our best guess is that, as Brett's best friend, she provides some useful (and ultimately encouraging device).

Violet plays a crucial role in bringing Brett and Casey together

While an exit date for Brett has not been established, the One Chicago franchise has a tendency for writing characters off the show early on in a season. They did it with Otis (Yuri Sardarov), and based on what's been revealed about Blake Gallo (Alberto Rosende), they will do the same thing with him in the season 12 premiere.

It makes sense to hold off on Brett's exit, so that she A) doesn't overshadow Gallo leaving or B) get overshadowed by Gallo leaving, but given that her plans seem to be aligned with Casey, who is still living in Oregon, we anticipate that they will be vacating the 51 during the first leg of the season.

Brett has made a point of savoring every moment during her final season, and has posted even more photos than usual on her Instagram. She's sung the praises of her co-stars, and even posted photos from her first time on the Chicago Fire set.
