After taking three weeks off, Chicago Fire is back. The good news is there are no more breaks in the schedule.

Chicago Fire season 12, episode 10 sees Severide taking center stage again. This time, he’s going to put his own life on the line to protect Kidd from a dangerous situation. That’s what we’ve known since close to the start of the break when NBC released the promo for the episode.

There is a lot more going on at Firehouse 51, though. This episode doesn’t seem to have much humor in it based on the teases of the storylines to come.

The promo makes it clear that there is a dangerous save about to happen. We see a car that has driven through the side of a building. Only, this isn’t on the ground. The car is a few storeys up, and that means the whole of Firehouse 51 will need to work together to figure out how to get the car and the driver down safely.

Of course, people panic in emergency situations. It looks like that’s something that happens in this case, leading to the car falling to the ground with Severide on top and Kidd underneath.

The synopsis tells us that a lot more is going on, and nothing is connected to this harrowing safe. Severide is taking over as ranking officer of Firehouse 51. Where’s Boden? That’s not all that clear at this point.

Kidd has her own situation to deal with. It looks like budget cuts are coming for the Girls on Fire program. Kidd knows how important this program is to get women into the fire service. The problem is these are the types of programs that are cut before anything else. While they’re good to have, keeping people in jobs is usually the priority.

That doesn’t mean Kidd is going to sit back and allow that to happen, though. She is putting up a fight, and we hope to see Kylie get involved as well. If it wasn’t for Girls on Fire, Kylie wouldn’t be where she is today.

This usually leads us to a humorous storyline, but that doesn’t seem to be the case this time. Cruz is getting the next storyline, and it’s connected to his adopted son Javi. Someone from Javi’s past comes up. Is this someone looking to take back custody of Javi, or could it be someone dangerous from his past? Of course, it could turn out to be just someone who wants to say hi and see where Javi is, but when have we ever known that to be the case in the One Chicago universe?

"Severide steps in as ranking officer at 51; Kidd fights to save her Girls on Fire programme; Cruz's family is threatened when someone from Javi's past resurfaces."
