Gone for good? Chicago Fire star sells his Illinois loft for $1.4 million
Chicago Fire has had two major departures in season 12. The first was Blake Gallo (Alberto Rosende), who left during the premiere, and the second was Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer), who moved away from the Windy City in the episode "Port in the Storm."
Brett, of course, married Matt Casey, who officially left the show two seasons prior. The former's departure overshadowed the latter's return, but a piece of real-life news suggests that fans may not get a chance to see Casey again for some time (if ever).
Jesse Spencer sold his Chicago loft
Jesse Spencer, the actor who plays Casey, recently sold his loft in the Chicago neighborhood of Fulton Market. According to the Chicago Tribune, the loft was 3,651 square feet and contains four bedrooms. Spencer paid $1.1 million for the loft back in 2015, when he was still a full-time cast member.
The loft was originally listed at $1.8 million, but Spencer wound up selling it for $1.4 million in March 2024, though the outlet reports that he secured a deal back in January. This is interesting timing on the actor's part, given that the sale lines up with what is believed to be one of his last appearances on the show.

Spencer had been one of the most flexible Chicago Fire actors in terms of making time to appear in one-off episodes that maintain his character's storyline. He's been in a handful of episodes since he officially left the show, but there was a sense that his limited presence was building towards his eventual marriage with Brett.
Now that Brett and Casey are hitched, and are planning to spend the rest of their days fighting fires in Oregon, there's little incentive for Spencer to continue to make cameo appearances. He would have likely sold the Fulton Market loft regardless, but it does seem to close the book on his character for the near future.
Spencer left the show in season 10
Spencer did, after all, decide to leave the show to spend more time with his family. He fleshed out his reasoning during a 2021 interview with Us Weekly:
"It was a difficult decision but there’s other things that I would love to do in the future and there’s some family that I need to take care of. 18 years is a long time."
We appreciate the fact that Spencer worked with the writers and producers to give his character a believable and satisfying sendoff, and we wish him the best in whatever he does next.
We will, however, keep our fingers crossed for another cameo.
