Have Upton and Halstead talked since their Chicago PD divorce?

The former couple will undoubtedly come up as Upton prepares to exit the show.

Upstead used to be a Chicago PD mainstay. True, it took Jay Halstead (Jesse Lee Soffer) and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) to tie the knot, but their romance drove several storylines during the police drama's middle seasons.

Then, it was over. Halstead left Chicago in season 10, and season 11 kicked off with the confirmation that they had gotten divorced. It was a sad ending to a romance that had taken years to gestate, and one that fans are still feeling dissatisfied with (much like Upton, herself).

Given how quickly the divorce took root, however, there's been some confusion about the order of events, and whether or not the former couple have communicated within the last year. When was the last time these two characters even spoke to one another?

Well, there's an offscreen and an onscreen answer. The former is more of an intuited answer, but it remains a certainty given that communication is necessary to necessitate legal action. The last time Halstead and Upton presumably spoke with one another was during the six month period between seasons 10 and 11.

The characters agreed on a divorce, and the season 11 showed the paperwork, along with a signature from Halstead. There hasn't been any mention of Halstead since, which leads us to believe that there hasn't been any contact made since the divorce was finalized.

The last time Halstead and Upton interacted onscreen, however, was in the season 10 episode in which the former left. He basically cut off all contact with his wife once he left the Windy City, and despite her attempts to reach out via text and/or phone call, Halstead didn't respond.

It seemed as though Halstead was going to respond via text message in the episodes "I Can Let You Go" and "Fight", but in both cases, Upton was unable to get anything in return. Upton was forced to call Halstead's boss in order to get an update on whether he was coming home. He didn't even respond to the "I love you" message she dropped in "I Can Let You Go."

Jesse Lee Soffer has continued to play a vital role in Chicago PD behind the scenes, as he will have directed two episodes by the end of season 11, but he has not been heard from or seen onscreen since he officially left the show.

As such, the last episode to feature Halstead is truly the last time we got to see him interact with his wife.
