NBC boss is thrilled for One Chicago's future despite cast exits
One Chicago has had some growing pains as of late. All three shows in the franchise have fallen prey to casting changes and sudden departures. Chicago Med was the latest show to encounter this, as Dominic Rains confirmed that he would not be part of the season 10 cast.
It's difficult for shows to keep the same cast together for all three One Chicago shows are coming up on or have already passed the decade mark. Fortunately, the people in charge of these shows are not worried in the slightest.
NBC's President of Programming praised One Chicago
Jeff Bader, the President of Program Planning Strategy for NBCUniversal Entertainment, recently spoke on the cast turnover during a recent interview with TV Line. Bader pointed out that most shows experience turnover from season to season, and that he believes the One Chicago shows are strong as ever:
"Every year there are cast changes, and every year someone asks the same question about the state of #OneChicago. But [those shows] just keep going on."
Bader assured the outlet and the fans that One Chicago has continued to thrive in viewership, and he has no concerns about its future despite the aforementioned cast changes. "Cast comes in, cast goes out," the NBC President stated. "We’re thrilled with how the Chicagos do on Wednesday. We have no plans on changing anything on that night."
One Chicago has a long history of finding strong replacements
This is the general sentiment that showrunners and the remaining cast members for the One Chicago franchise have put forth as well. Many of them have cited previous examples of the shows having to part ways with beloved characters, and the ways in which they maintained their momentum.
PD's Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), for example, was a replacement for the extremely important character of Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush). It wasn't clear whether Upton would be able to fill the shoes left behind, but she did it, and the show is not in the position of having to replace another beloved character.
We're confident the writers, producers, and showrunners know what they're doing.
