One Chicago production start dates are confirmed (and they're soon!)
One Chicago is back. Well, technically. The franchise won't be returning to the small screen until early September, but Screen Magazine has confirmed that all three shows will be starting production within the week!
The outlet reports that Chicago PD will be the first show to break the seal and begin production. The police procedural will bring back its cast and crew on Wednesday, July 17. A lucky omen, perhaps, given that One Chicago Wednesdays are a staple of NBC's weekly lineup.
Chicago PD and Fire begin filming this week
Chicago Fire will follow suit on Friday, July 19. It makes sense that PD and Fire would be the first two shows out the gate, given their popularity and their reliance on stunt work and pyrotechnics. Both shows are more reliant on action and spectacle than Chicago Med, which primarily takes place in hospital rooms.
Naturally, Chicago Med will be the third show to kicks off production, on July 31. The specifics of the Med start dates appears to be less concrete, as Screen Magazine states it will be around the end of the month, give or take a day.
All three One Chicago shows will be contending with slightly altered casts. Chicago PD lost Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos), Fire lost Chief Wallace Boden (Eamonn Walker), and Med will be losing Dr. Crockett Marcel (Dominic Rains).
Chicago Med will be the last show to start production
It's definitely a time of transition, but one that Jeff Bader, the President of Program Planning Strategy for NBCUniversal Entertainment, is excited for. He told TV Line that the One Chicago franchise is big as ever, and is confident it will continue to thrive:
"Cast comes in, cast goes out. We’re thrilled with how the Chicagos do on Wednesday. We have no plans on changing anything on that night."
Chicago Med's staggered start date, roughly a week and half after the other two shows, may be due to the fact that it's the only One Chicago title that has a brand new showrunner. Allen MacDonald has been brought in to replace Diane Frolov and Andrew Schneider, so it will be interesting to see how the show changes under his watch. We also can't wait for set photos!
