A replacement for Brett?! Chicago Fire boss confirms our suspicions
It's been pretty well-established that Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) is leaving Chicago Fire. The character plans to leave the Windy City for Oregon as soon as she marries Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer). It'll be sad to see such a beloved character go, but it also means that there will be an opening for a new 51 paramedic.
There's been so much focus on how Brett will leave, and when she will leave, that few have asked about what will happen after she leaves. Until now. Chicago Fire showrunner Andrea Newman sat down for a chat with TV Line, and she confirmed that a new paramedic is around the corner.
There will be a new medic on Chicago Fire
To make matters even more interesting, Newman told the outlet that the new paramedic will bring out a different side of Violet (Hanako Greensmith), which makes sense given that Violet has always been second-in-command behind Brett.
Violet will only be going on calls without one of her closest co-workers, but she will be forced to take the lead and help a new paramedic figure out how things work at the 51. It'll be a big step for Violet, and one that will lead to interesting development.

Per Newman:
"Ultimately, there will be somebody new coming in and they’ll be working under Violet. That’s part of the great Violet journey this year, as she continues to grow as a character and gets to step into a leadership position on ambo, too."
Violet will take more of a leadership role
It's a smart pivot on the part of the Chicago Fire writers, and it will further the notion of season 12 as a transitional year for the show. Not only does this season have fewer episodes than normal due to the Hollywood strikes, but it will be forced to say goodbye to two central characters when all is said and done.
Blake Gallo (Alberto Rosende) left during the premiere, and was promptly replaced by newcomer Derrick Gibson (Rome Flynn). Brett is next up, but as evidenced by Newman's answer, we have very little to go on in terms of who Brett's replacement will be.
We will find out soon enough.
