Trudy Platt will be integral to the rest of Chicago PD season 11

The fan favorite will be getting more screen time than ever.

Who doesn't love Trudy Platt (Amy Morton)? In a show full of hard-nosed characters and grizzled cops, Platt is the one who tells it like it is the most often, and has the best advice.

The character is usually on the outskirts of the main storyline, given her role within the police department, but that's going to change in season 11. Chicago PD showrunner Gwen Sigan told TV Line that Platt will actually play a huge part in the season's second half, and will get a chance to get out from behind her desk.

Platt has had pretty limited exposure in season 11 thus far, outside setting the stage for Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and the viewer during the first episode. According to Sigan, this was done on purpose, with the intention being to shine more of a light on the character as the show nears its finale:

"Yes, Platt will be appearing in the back half of the season. We have some really beautiful scenes for her coming up."

While more Platt is always a win, the showrunner also revealed that the character will be vital in helping another character deal with the "cost" of the job. Platt is a natural advice-giver, as we alluded to previously, so it makes sense that she would be the one to step up and help out a younger officer who's going through a crisis of confidence.

Sigan doesn't reveal who the character in question is, but given how emotional turmoil the members of the IU have been through recently, it could realistically be anyone. Trudy Platt will get to do more than dispense advice, however.

Platt will work a case with Hailey Upton

In the 10th episode of the season, which has yet to recieve a title or an official synopsis, Sigan told the outlet that Platt will actually get involved with the case, and work alongside Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) in an attempt to bring the guilty parties to justice:

"[It] features Platt heavily. She’s a real part of the case — and it’s perhaps one of our strangest and darkest cases of the season."

This is a pretty exciting development. It's been a long time since Platt was directly involved in a case, and the last time we saw her in action, technically, was when she rushed to the hospital after Mouch (Christian Stolte), her Chicago Fire husband, got shot by a sniper.

We're looking forward to more of the character, and are curious to see how she factors into the eventual exit plan of the aforementioned Upton (who sounds like she will be her partner-in-justice).
