Thankfully for Chicago Med fans, Steven Weber is a truly fantastic actor who has done a wonderful job portraying Dr. Dean Archer ever since he first joined the show's cast. Sadly, however, that doesn't mean that the character has always been as great as it could be. At times, Dr. Archer has been less entertaining because of the storylines that the character has been given.

Since some of Dr. Archer's storylines have been less compelling than others, any time the character is given a great storyline that is worthy of him is something that should be celebrated by Chicago Med fans. One perfect example of that is the new romance storyline involving Dr. Archer that is already exciting, despite how recently it was introduced.

Like most shows, Chicago Med can feel repetitive at times. For example, it has been repetitive, albeit realistic, that Dr. Dean Archer has seemed married to his career during so many of his storylines. As a result, it has always been refreshing when Dean's personal life has been put in the spotlight, like during his interactions with his son, Sean Archer, or his friend, Dr. Hannah Asher.

While those aspects of Dean's personal life have been refreshing, his love life has fallen far short of its potential to create compelling storylines. For example, his one-night stand with Hannah is just weird and gross to think about, and he didn't seem to have any real chemistry with the woman he briefly dated, who his son worked for in the past.

During the first part of Chicago Med season 11, the show has done a great job with romance storylines, as evidenced by how compelling the newly introduced love triangle has been. Similarly, viewers have seen teases of Dean getting involved in his first interesting romantic storyline.

After Merrin Dungey was introduced as Dr. Jennifer Kingston during the second episode of Chicago Med season 11, she returned during episode seven, and her mutual attraction with Dean quickly became obvious. Not only that, Jennifer's potential introduction into Dean's life has loads of potential because she seemed to put him a little bit off-kilter, which casts his character in a new light.

Given that Dean and Hannah are set to have a baby soon, it is easy to see how that complication could make Dean and Jennifer's potential storyline very quickly fizzle out. In fact, I have to admit that would a realistic and possibly even organic turn of events. Despite that, this new romance seems to have too much potential for Chicago Med to get rid of it quickly. After all, if there is one thing the season 10 episode that featured Dean getting dosed showed, it is that bringing out the character's silly side is gold.
