3 scenes that should have been in Chicago Med season 3
Chicago Med season 3 was missing a few necessary scenes, so we’re counting back the moments we needed from Chicago Med’s most recent season.
The third season of Chicago Med had many new developments, but it was lacking in a couple of places. Whether it was completely resolving a story or just a missed opportunity, there were a few scenes we wish we’d seen.
Gaffney Chicago Medical Center introduced multiple new romantic relationships, one very long-term surgery, a possible murderer and a lot of bureaucratic pain. In the end, the hospital pulled off said surgery with a lot of great PR, the killer might have died, and a lot of things were up in the air, including some of the season’s plot points.
This post is devoted to those moments—the scenes we think could’ve made the season better, or could’ve somehow tied something up, but that we were never given. We’re telling you what, why we wanted them, and we want to know what you missed in the comments.
Here are the scenes we think should have been in Chicago Med season 3:

3) Connor crashing Nina’s party
The episode “Lock It Down” almost provided what would’ve been one of the greatest sight gags in One Chicago history.
According to Colin Donnell, producers wanted Dr. Nina Shore to be the pathologist Dr. Connor Rhodes startled when he busted into the morgue, but Patti Murin was busy with Frozen: The Broadway Musical and couldn’t appear.
That would’ve been awesome on so many levels. It would’ve made the hilarious moment even funnier, because Patti’s gift for comedy would’ve made Nina’s reaction priceless.
But it would’ve also given us something we’ve begged for, for ages: the real-life spouses in a scene together, albeit briefly. Although Colin and Patti have been married for years and both have significant roles on the show, their characters have never interacted in a single Chicago Med scene. The most we’ve ever gotten is one of them passing behind the other last season.
So that moment would’ve not only been perfect for that episode, but perfect for the fans. Alas, it was not to be.

2) Ava getting busted
Chicago Med season 3 really wanted audiences to embrace new series regular Dr. Ava Bekker (Norma Kuhling). Maybe that’s why even though she committed a major mistake in the episode “An Inconvenient Truth” she got off with hardly any consequence.
One of the most frustrating things in the season was this story, where the cardiothoracic team found out one of them had left an instrument inside a patient. Ava delighted in snarking about how it had to be Connor’s, but when it was revealed to be hers, nothing really came of it.
She was found bursting into tears over the mistake, so Connor went into Dr. Isidore Latham’s (Ato Essandoh) office and took responsibility for it. That not so little sacrifice was a big part of how his career took a downward spiral until the season finale, and there was really no reason for it.
Why did Connor risk his own career to help a woman who made repeatedly clear she’d have been happy to see him get thrown under the bus? And why not have Ava admit her mistake? She’d have won over a lot of fans if she’d had the courage, and the integrity, to accept responsibility. That’s the kind of character we could root for.
1) Robert’s death
We don’t normally advocate for characters to die, especially not on Chicago Med where the goal is to save lives. But Robert Haywood (recurring guest star Michel Gill) should have died this season.
He wound up being nothing but a cruel, manipulative character better suited to Chicago PD, and the whole idea of him fighting Dr. Charles for Dr. Reese’s future wasn’t interesting. Especially not when he went past “villain we love to hate” and just into “villain we hate.”
Robert could’ve easily not made it through his heart transplant surgery and Reese would’ve had a whole storyline about losing her father before she’d ever really gotten to know him. That would’ve been interesting and saved a lot of time in the final few episodes of the season.
What about just letting Reese continue to grow as a doctor and gain more confidence and take on patients herself, instead of now thinking she might be a sociopath? So much else could have been done except Robert just wouldn’t go away.
It looks like Robert finally did leave us in the season finale, but we’ll wait until we see a body in the Chicago Med season 4 premiere. Because we certainly hope he’s not coming back next season for even more trouble.
