Look back at where Chicago PD began this summer. Read our retrospective on the sixth episode as we rewatch Chicago PD season 1, episode 6.

Over the One Chicago summer break, we’re looking back at where it all began by rewatching the first seasons of our shows—and today we’re revisiting Chicago PD season 1, episode 6.

If you want to rewatch this episode along with us, you can find Chicago PD season 1 on iTunes and DVD.

The show’s sixth episode is entitled “Conventions” and is its first crossover with Dick Wolf‘s other franchise, as two stars from Law & Order: Special Victims Unit are featured.

One thing you can say about One Chicago is that it never waited long to get started on crossover episodes. The first episode of Chicago Med to be a crossover was its fifth episode, and PD’s first crossover is its sixth.

In “Conventions,” the death of a woman in Chicago matches the modus operandi of other killings in New York. Enter SVU detectives Odafin “Fin” Tutuola (Ice-T) and Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish).

The case of the week is pretty easy to figure out, with the Intelligence Team fairly quickly deducing that the murders are the work of a duo and using one of them to get them to the other.

The best part of it is that the “worse half” of the pair is played by actor Cliff Chamberlain, who just turned up on the right side of the law as one of the LAPD detectives in Law & Order: True Crime.

Chamberlain was also in two episodes of The Mob Doctor, which starred Jesse Lee Soffer, playing the character Carlo.

You could say it’s a pretty small world. You can also watch him taking hostages at Navy Pier in this episode of Chicago PD by playing the video below:

“Conventions” also features another “will they, won’t they” moment between Halstead and Erin Lindsay (Sophia Bush), continuing the tension from the previous episode, when she asks him to come to her high school reunion to impress her former classmates.

But almost more importantly, it continues Lindsay’s problems with Justin Voight (Josh Segarra), as he shows up at her doorstep with literal blood on his hands in a cliffhanger ending. You can already see how central Lindsay is going to be to the show, because she’s involved in two of this episode’s biggest plot points.

As far as crossovers go, “Conventions” isn’t as good as some of the crossovers we’d see Chicago PD do in later seasons. It’s pretty straight-forward if you’ve watched enough cop shows. But then again, it is only the first one, so clearly the show had plenty of room to grow at this point in its history. If you want to watch it again, find it on iTunes and DVD.
