What did One Chicago fans learn from the latest Chicago Med episode? Here’s what we took away from this week’s installment, “Tell Me The Truth.”
“Tell Me The Truth” featured Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) trying to figure out what had really happened to an FBI agent, who happened to be the partner of his former handler Ingrid Lee (guest star Anna Enger).
Meanwhile, Dr. Connor Rhodes (Colin Donnell) had to deal with a kidnapping plot that pulled him away from a VIP’s surgery, which immediately tanked his stock with Gwen Garrett (recurring guest star Heather Headley).

Below are our takeaways from this week’s episode:
1) Was Will’s story unnecessarily complicated?
It’s understandable why Agent Lee didn’t want to talk about what had injured her partner; that’s such a traumatic thing to discuss. But did anyone think that the situation could have been resolved much quicker than it was?
If she had been more specific in her dialogue with Will, saying something like “It was traumatic and I don’t feel comfortable talking about it,” then there’s no doubt he would’ve gotten the clear message. He’s empathetic, sometimes to a fault.
But instead, we got much more vague replies and that one shot of her looking back at Will before she entered the hospital, so Chicago Med could stretch out the drama until the last act. There’s no doubt that the storyline was dramatic, but it just felt like Lee being so evasive—especially since, as was pointed out, it could have affected the treatment of someone so important to her—was unnecessary.

2) Goodwin losing her edge
Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) has always been handling most of the administrative work around the hospital, but the most recent Chicago Med episodes have turned her into a lot more of a bureaucrat. Where it felt like Goodwin was always fighting for patients and in turn for her doctors, now it seems like her priority is the hospital they’re in.
Her scene trying to mediate Jenny’s treatment was frustrating. She didn’t actually have much of an opinion herself; she waffled between supporting both sides of the argument, and then said it’d have to ultimately wait until the hospital lawyers made their decision. It feels like Goodwin is less and less effective—maybe that’s because the climate of the hospital has changed this season as Gwen has arrived, but we miss the Goodwin who had her own beliefs and would fight for them.
Speaking of, what was the point of showing Connor’s father in the board meeting? Obviously he’d be present since he’s on the board, but were viewers supposed to read something into him being the person to argue against budget cuts? Anybody else could’ve had those lines, but coming from Cornelius, they automatically raise eyebrows.
3) What the frak is going on with Connor’s life?
Speaking of the Rhodes family, can we agree that Chicago Med has just taken Connor way off the reservation? A fake kidnapping plot was something that would’ve been better suited for Chicago PD than this show. And then to once again intimate that it was a plot from Dr. Ava Bekker (Norma Kuhling) to further her career?
Things have gone incredibly out of control as far as Connor’s storylines are concerned, and we’re still no closer to getting any kind of resolution for him. This is definitely an aspect that the show needs to address, because the writers keep pulling him further and further away from being the awesome surgeon that audiences love so much.
