Chicago Fire has found its next firefighter! The NBC drama has cast Shadowhunters alum Alberto Rosende in a recurring role for season 8.

Firehouse 51 will welcome another new member this year. Deadline has announced Alberto Rosende will appear a recurring role for Chicago Fire‘s eighth season.

Rosende will play Blake Gallo, a young, energetic firefighter who joins Firehouse 51’s second shift. According to Deadline, his love for the job and his effervescence are noticed by Matt Casey (Jesse Spencer) Kelly Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Christopher Hermann (David Eigenberg)—and the trio end up becoming mentors to Blake as he finds his footing within the firehouse.

The casting of Rosende comes on the heels of the news that Firehouse 51 will also be getting a new paramedic. Much like with the carousel of paramedics (remember Jessica “Chili” Chilton or Chout?), the new firefighter doesn’t mean a replacement as much as it means an addition.

With the fates of our favorite firefighters left up in the air thanks to that cliffhanger of a season finale, maybe Blake will be essential in the aftermath of that storyline, depending on where the writers take it.

Plus, a new character brings ample opportunities for new friendships to be forged. Blake could become a friend for any of the aforementioned characters, like Stella Kidd’s (Miranda Rae Mayo) friendship with Gabriela Dawson (Monica Raymund).

Or he could develop an adversarial relationship, like Jimmy Borrelli (Steven R. McQueen) vs. Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker).

This isn’t the first time Alberto Rosende has been cast in an action-packed role. Fans of the Freeform show Shadowhunters will remember Rosende as Simon Lewis, a Daylighter (a vampire who can walk in the sun).

His character quickly became a fan favorite over three seasons, before it ended this May. The actor even provided music for the series, some of which you can listen to by playing the video at the bottom of this article.

Chicago Fire won’t be the first time Rosende has been in a Dick Wolf production. He was cast in an episode of Law & Order: SVU back in 2015. In season 17’s “Catfishing Teacher,” he portrayed the role of Jordan Messina—a high school student involved in a dangerous affair with his instructor.

Rosende will bring a new dynamic to Firehouse 51, and has a memorable personal story of his own as a testicular cancer survivor. If you want to check him out before Chicago Fire season 8 premieres next month, he’s also appeared in commercials for Old Spice.
