What will happen

Since Brett’s storyline was one of the main events in the season 7 finale, Chicago Fire season 8 should readily address at least some portion of it within the premiere. Fans can feel a little relief given the knowledge that Kara Killmer was featured in both the key art and promotional trailer for the new season, so her character is not done on Chicago Fire. This will give her another chance to shine, and her character a well-deserved spotlight.

An interesting off-season development in the Chicago Fire universe could mean Sylvie’s lead role will be showcased in a larger capacity. There’s been news of Chicago Fire casting a new paramedic for this season, and with a fresh face comes the rest of the team adjusting to that new dynamic. As Paramedic in Charge, Brett will be an integral part of making sure that adjustment runs smoothly, like she did for Foster.

But before all that, there’s the question of what happens to Brett in the warehouse fire that ended the last season. Her aforementioned presence in this season’s promos suggests that she survives, but she could still be hurt. Or, if someone else dies, that’s something Brett will have to deal with, and with as big a heart as she has, she’ll probably take that hard.

Here’s hoping Brett not only makes it out of the fire unscathed, but overcomes the hurdles in her personal life too, because she’s been through so much over the last two seasons. She deserves some time in the sun.
